A Change of Heart: A Classic Love
TE 836 Instructor: Laura ApolWhat makes a children's book a classic and what makes a children's book just good? What is considered when giving a children's book an award? Did we agree with the books that were given these literary awards? These questions and many more were discussed and debated throughout this class. Furthermore, since my favorite genre is children's literature, I knew that this was going to be an enjoyable course. The main reason why I enjoyed this course is because I was "forced" to read books I avoided because they were given the label "classic". Ironically, I ended up enjoying the books and realized the importance of making sure I instill an open mind within my students. My journey to my masters has only just begun but already I am on my way to discovering what I need to be an effective literary teacher.
